8 killed in blast at illegal fire - crackers unit in Bihar's Bhagalpur

On Thursday (March 3) night, a massive explosion rocked through a house, a huge quantity of inflammable material was stored there. A powerful explosion in a house in Bihar's Bhagalpur district, police said on Friday. 

 

The explosion took place at around 11:30 pm on Thursday night in the house of Mohaammad Yusuf. The explosion occurred in the house in Kajwali Chak village under Tatarpur police station. The explosion was so intense that four houses collapsed and a six - month old baby was among 8 were killed and several injured. The sound was heard around 15km away from the site. 

 

As per reports, the police and emergency services rushed to the spot. The injured were taken to Jawaharlal Nehru College and Hospital in Mayaganj for immediate medical attention. 

 

Deputy Inspector General of Police Sujit Kumar informed that the blast took place due to the presence of country - made bombs, gun powder and illegal firecrackers in the building. 

 

Local police believe that there could be more persons trapped under the debris. The rescue operation started soon after the incident. "We are in the process of recording the statement of the injured to find out the nature of explosive", Sujit Kumar said. 

 

A case has been registered under the Indian Penal Code's Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and the Explosive Substances Act. 

 

Interestingly, this is not the first time that the unit has faced a fire emergency and no pre - cautionary measured were taken.
