AAP Ahead Of BJP, Tight Race

Predictions of AAP victory by a big Margin goes wrong…

New Delhi: The AAP is ahead of the BJP but is yet to secure a fixed lead as the counting of votes is going on for the election to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD election).

The close contest between the two parties saw the trends swinging wildly, giving no clear indication of who may win the civic polls. Congress is at a distant third position with minimum votes.

Elections to the 250 wards in the national capital were held on December 4. Exit polls have predicted the AAP's victory by a big margin but predictions are expected to go wrong. The BJP ruled the civic body for the last 15 years.

The votes are being counted at 42 centres across Delhi. A total of 1,349 candidates contested the elections, the first since three civic bodies were unified earlier this year.

In 2017, BJP had won 181 of the 270 municipal wards while AAP could secure only 48 and Congress finished third with only 30.
