Attackers say they were hurt by His 'Anti-Hindu Remarks': Police


On Friday, the AIMIM leaders and workers will hold a peaceful protest across the country to mark the attack that happened on Party president Asaduddin Owaisi's Convoy in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district.


As per the information, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi was in Meerut for Campaigning on Thursday. Information stated two people had reportedly attacked the AIMIM Chief and fired bullets on his Convoy while he was leaving from Meerut's Kithoudh area to Delhi.

 

The incident occurred near Chhajarsi toll plaza.  According to the information, his car got punctured and he had to leave it for another vehicle.


According to the information, the AIMIM president claimed that "big forces" were involved in the attack. So far, the police have arrested two accused - Sachin and Shubham, in connection with the case.

 

During interrogation, they told police that they carried out the act upon being hurt by Owaisi`s anti-Hindu statements. The AIMIM chief also urged the Election Commission (EC) to conduct an independent probe over the matter. 


"Uttar Pradesh Police is analysing the CCTV footage. One person was arrested in connection with the incident. An illegal 9 mm pistol was recovered from him. Five teams have been formed and the investigation is underway," Prashant Kumar, ADG (Law and Order) told ANI. 


The incident occurred ahead of the Uttar Pradesh elections, The assembly elections in the Uttar Pradesh state for the 403 assembly seats would be held in seven phases. The elections will begin from February 10 to March 7. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
