Amarnath Yatra cancelled due to Covid-19


Jammu Kashmir on Monday announced that Amarnath Yatra for this year has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Government announced that the traditional religious rituals shall be performed at the holy shrine as per past practice.

Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, chairman of Amarnath shrine board, had a detailed deliberations with chief secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, DGP, Dilbag Singh, principal secretary home shaleen Kabra and principal secretary to Lt. Governor Nitishwar Kumar who directed that devotees should be enabled to attend the morning and the evening aarti in online mode. He said that it would help them to pay their obeisance while also avoiding travel and exposure.

According to the statement by Lt. Governor, it said that "It is important to save people's lives. So, it is not advisable to hold and conduct this year's pilgrimage in the largest public interest. Shri Amarnathji shrine board is aware of and respects the sentiments of millions of devotees, and to keep the sentiments alive, the board shall continue the live telecast of the morning and evening aarti online from holy cave shrine." said the Lt. Governor.

Sri Amarnathji board has been assessing the Covid-19 situation, the Union territory and the country. Our focus is on containing the pandemic and strengthening health infrastructure, said the board CEO.
