Ambani All Eyes On Etail Grocery Rival That Could Match Him

Ambani’s e-tail groceries rival to arrive soon.

India’s largest business enterprise Tata Group is all set to join the run of etail grocery and that could turn into a challenge to the road map that Mukesh Ambani had laid down for  his group.

BigBasket India’s largest existing etailer is all set to sell 50-60% of their stakes to the Tata Group. This move by the Tatas makes us believe that Reliance retail domination is soon going to face competition in the market and this time it’s going to be a competition between rupee to rupee.

If the deal between the both which is not yet finalised pollinates, then the aftermath for the Indian retail is likely to be profound. If Tatas enter the Indian retail markets then the emerging fear of Ambani’s monopoly could change majorly. Ambani’s Reliance has already begun a strong push to capture grocery etail by launching JioMart. Then there are also etailers like Flipkart and Amazon, the two biggies in e-commerce, who also have huge plans for the grocery segment.

Tata Groups are actively looking for mergers and acquisitions(M&A) chances to attain the e-commerce plan successfully. This plan majorly involves snapping up internet companies. A company like BigBasket is known to give biggies like Flipkart and Amazon a tough and tight competition and also a run for their money and this suits the Tata Group’s plan perfectly.Tata Digital which is the company arm is majorly focussed on sealing M&A deals in the etail sector. The BigBasket deal is also going to be completed through Tata Digital.

According to some Tata Group executives not only BigBasket is on the radar for acquisition by the enterprise but also they have eyes on two other retail enterprises IndiaMart and Snapdeal.

In the reatil market Tata already has several businesses, its retail arms include Trent and Infiniti Retails. Trent operates Westside and Landmark whereas Infiniti Retails operates Croma stores. These already existing arms of the Tata’s is not enough to directly take on Reliance’s JioMart, but the collaborator like BigBasket is expected to close at Rs. 9000 crores gross sales in the year 2020-21 and this could turn the scene on its head.
