Biden signs executive order on Abortion access!

President Joe Biden signed an executive order to support laws for abortions and contraceptive access

After the supreme court ruling in the Roe V Wade case, Mr Biden was pressurised by fellow democrats for a bolder response in action.

The new executive order that is signed allows the US states to individually decide if and how to allow abortions. The order also includes regulations to safeguard abortion medication and make it more accessible.

It protects women against potential penalties if they travel across a state-lines for the procedure, protects and makes contraception accessible, and takes necessary steps to protect patient privacy.

Health and Human Services secretary Xavier Becerra has been directed to submit a report within 30 days on those efforts. Mr Biden has made efforts and maintained limitations on abortion rights in his ability to institute, but the efforts are limited without action from the US Congress.

The White House in a statement on Friday said, "Until then, he has committed to doing everything in his power to defend reproductive rights and protect access to safe and legal abortion,".

The order was announced nearly two weeks after the Supreme Court ruled to overturn Roe V Wade, the landmark 1973 ruling which guaranteed the constitutional right to abortion across the US. Since then, 9 states have placed a ban on abortion, with the only exemption being a danger to the life of the mother.

Mr. Biden is directing both the attorney general and white house counsel to convene pro bono cases and requested public organisations to encourage legal representation to women and abortion clinics.

The White House said, "Such representation could include protecting the right to travel out of state to seek medical care."
