Delhi HC to Cops, "Don't seize oxygen cylinder and Covid-19 medicine from patients


On Thursday, The Delhi High Court directed the police "Not to seize  medical Oxygen cylinders or Covid-19 medicine  from the patients and their attendants because they were procuring  the items out of "Desperation and need."

A bench of justice Vipin Sanghi and Rekha Palli asked the police to release the drug and oxygen cylinders as it was seized from hoarders and black marketers. The Court said that "Whenever  any seizure is made, IOs(Investigating officer)should immediately inform the DCP(Deputy Commissioner of police), "The articles must also be kept in the refrigerated environment so they don't lose their efficacy " further the Court said to ensure that the medicine can be administered to Covid-19 patients, whereas "DCP is in coordination with Delhi Government and  can ensure distribution as per the need."

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, The High Court had urged the residents not to hoard oxygen cylinders and medicine as the second wave of Coronavirus batters the Indian healthcare system. The Court is hearing several matters related to the handling of the pandemic in the National capital, and different benches have held Marathon hearings. Another bench of the court on Wednesday said that it appeared as if the Central Government wanted patients to die as it noted the new protocol of using Remdesivir to treat covid-19 patients.
