Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) on Wednesday told commuters that Rajiv Chowk  or Connaught Place Metro station would not allow passengers out after 9pm on New Year's Eve that is on December 31. DMRC also said passengers would be allowed until the last train left.

The DMRC tweeted, "New Year's Resurrection ... To reduce congestion on New Year's Eve (31 December 2020), departure from Rajiv Chowk station will not be allowed after 9 p.m. "Please plan your trip well.

The announcement by the DMRC comes after the discovery of new cases of Covid-19 type in India, which were initially detected in the UK.

The Department of Health has called on the country's governments to make sure they look forward to celebrating New Year's Eve December 31 and January 1 as these events could be 'very widespread events.' The Department of Health has indicated that ceremonies need to follow Covid -19 Prevention measures as cases increase in Europe and North America. Delhi police have urged people to celebrate the New Year carefully remembering that Covid-19 continues to infect thousands across the country.

Delhi police issued guidelines for New Year's Eve on December 30. Some cities such as Mumbai and Bengaluru have set a curfew overnight to curb the spread of Covid-19. The night shift was forced by the state government in Mumbai from 11pm to 6am. Mumbai police have asked restaurants, cafes, and bars to close their operations at 11pm.

Bangalore police have also issued guidelines banning any public gatherings during New Year's Day in the city. People can celebrate New Year's Eve with family and friends but social gatherings will not be allowed.
