India’s Laughter Challenge Winner; Rajat Sood

If your words bring a smile to one’s face, so just say it!

Extraordinarily Talented and Well-Known Pomedy (Mixture of Comedy and Poetry) Artist, Rajat Sood started a very unique concept of an extended art form of comedy. Times Magazine India interacted with Mr. Rajat to learn more about him, his Creative art form, and the hard work behind his success.

During an interaction, it was questioned, how this Innovative idea clicked and how you started your career in Comedy.

Pomedy King Rajat Sood replied that being an all-rounder, I excelled in academics and Extracurricular activities simultaneously when I did my Engineering from DTU (Delhi College of Engineering). Being a Delhiite, the surroundings and college life developed this Fascinating art in me.

How did this Innovative Idea click in your Mind while pursuing your career as an Engineer?

From the beginning, my mind always said that “Whatever is funny, whatever brings a smile to one’s face, just say it.” So, whatever came to my mind I started speaking. Initially, everyone criticized and taunted me, and people kept thinking badly about me but I was Fearless and kept saying what came to my mind.

Later on, a beautiful turn came and taunts turned into praise and people started to appreciate it a lot. Their Appreciation gave me confidence and I started writing small pieces. Then I researched and got to know that this is a specified art form and a source of earnings too.

If you want to earn a name, fame, and Wealth for a lavish life then pursue that art that has been there in you since childhood!

This formula increases the chances of success and I did the same thing. Different stage performances gave me a miraculous response and this way brought me here and made me the winner of the show named “Indian Laughter challenge”.

What is the real sense of comedy according to you?

According to me, the real sense of comedy is when someone can easily relate it to his or her personal life. When your thought becomes their belief, then it is impactful.

If anyone can remember even my single bit, then my efforts are successful. Style of Narration adds essence to the act on the stage. A scripted story is the same for everyone, just the presentation gives you recognition among several.

Knowing about his Creatives and experience;

Apart from being a Best Comedy Artist, Rajat Sood is a well-known Writer and lyricist too. He worked as a creative director in the song “Pehla Nasha”.

Rajat participated in Doordarshan's comedy show 'Sau Crore Ka Kavi' in 2021 and reached the finals, but stayed away from the title.

His best art pieces can be seen on his youtube channel run by his name only.

While Performing, Comedy is created or scripted?

It goes both ways. By smelling the audience's demands and mind set, some scripted jokes go perfect despite the situation as everyone goes through the same life cycle which I had gone through.

At some moments jokes have to be scripted according to the show's format to present the best bits on the stage but, mostly it comes from the real-life experiences.

Best Bit of yours…

My comedy is based on love life and relationships as everyone in his or her life has experienced love and heart breaks parallelly.

So, one of my best bits, “Bigad gye the Ishq me thode bohot” was loved by the audience a lot. It was circulated on social media in just a few hours. Listeners' love made it a trend on the Internet. It was unexpected for me as it was not pre planned.

Audience connects with you and your pieces only when they find it relevant and then they shower their love unconditionally.

Discussing the memorable moments from the show and the winning experience;

During the finale, I called my parents to watch my shoot and that was the first time they watched me perform and got to know what I exactly do and miraculously it so happened that I won the show. I hold the trophy and the Cash prize of 25 Lakh rupees with my parents. So, that will always have a special place in my heart and in my journey
