NCP chief Sharad Pawar to step down as party president

Party workers are not happy with this decision, demands that he reverse his decision

Sharad Pawar, president of NCP ( Nationalist Congress Party) announced his resignation as party leader on Tuesday. However his resignation does not mean that he’s retiring from active politics. He’ll still continue to actively participate with affairs of the state.

In his statement, Pawar, who has led the party from its establishment in 1999, stated, "I have three years left of Rajya Sabha membership in Parliament, during which I will focus on issues related to Maharashtra and India, with the caveat of not taking any responsibility." It is vital to take a step back after a lengthy time of public life from May 1, 1960, until May 1, 2023. As a result, I have chosen to resign as President of the Nationalist Congress Party."

According to Pawar, a committee would be constituted to decide who will be assigned the job of party chief. He stated that senior members of the panel should include Supriya Sule, Ajit Pawar, Praful Patel, Jayant Patil, Anil Deshmukh, Rajesh Tope, and Chhagan Bhujbal.

Pawar also told the NCP workers that even though he is stepping down from the post , he is not retiring from public life and will continue to attend public meetings and events. He assured his party workers that whether he is in Pune, Delhi, Mumbai or anywhere else he’ll be available to them as usual.

As soon as the senior leader stated his choice, NCP workers in the auditorium demanded that Pawar reverse his decision, stating that they would not leave until he did so.
