Heavy rainfall in the state for the past few days…


In Assam the death toll increasing by over 4.88 lakh due to continuing floods, as per an official bulletin, people grappling with the deluge across 16 districts.

Over the past few days due to heavy rainfall in the state, major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, are flowing above the danger level at various locations.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin, one person lost their life in floodwaters in Ghograpar, Nalbari district, in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to two.

Currently, a total of 4,88,525 individuals in 16 districts and three sub-divisions are affected by the deluge. This number has slightly decreased from 4.95 lakh on Thursday, spread across 16 districts and four sub-divisions.

The most severely impacted area is the Bajali sub-division, where 2,67,253 people have been affected, followed by Nalbari with 80,061 and Barpeta with 73,233 individuals affected.

35,142 people are seeking shelter in 140 relief camps, and 75 relief distribution centres are operational.

The administration has employed the State Disaster Response Force in rescue operation, local residents, trained volunteers, and civil defence personnel across different districts.
