Tokyo Olympics: Indian fencer Bhavani Devi lost the second round to World No. 3 Manon Brunet

C A Bhavani is the first ever Indian fencer to represent the country in the Olympics.


Indian fencer C A Bhavani Devi, who created history by becoming the first ever fencer to represent the country in the Olympics, lost the second round to World No. 3 Manon Brunet in the women's individual sabre event in the Tokyo Olympics Games on Monday. In the first round, Bhavani had a great start and confidently scored 15-3 against Nadia Ben Azizi of Tunisia. However, Ms Devi had to face Rio Olympics semifinalist, Ms Brunet of France in the second round, in which she lost 7-15.

The 27-year-old fencer agreed that she committed some mistakes but also expressed happiness to the fact that she is the first Indian to participate and perform in fencing. The Chennai fencer said that she had tried hard to qualify for Rio and that experience helped her become stronger to compete for Tokyo Olympics.
