10 Omicron Cases in Delhi so far

Don’t get panic; Health Minister Satyendar Jain

New Delhi: Today, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that 10 cases of Omicron have been detected in Delhi so far.

40 people are admitted to the Lok Nayak Hospital for isolating and treating suspected cases of the new Covid variant ‘Omicron.’

Of the 40 people, 38 are COVID-19 positive so far.

Mr. Satyendar Jain told reporters, "A total of 10 cases of the Omicron variant have been detected in Delhi so far. 9 are still in hospital, one of them has been discharged."

The minister further added, many international travellers are seeming to Covid positive upon arrival at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

"On Thursday, December 16, 2021, eight such people were admitted to the hospital" he said.

On Tuesday, the minister had said that the Omicron variant has not spread in the community so far and the situation is under control.

He then said, the condition of the Omicron-positive patients is stable. No serious condition is observed.

Officials said Delhi's first patient of the Omicron variant was a 37-year-old man from Ranchi who was discharged on Monday after he tested negative twice.

He had travelled from Tanzania to Doha and from there, to Delhi on a Qatar Airways flight on December 2. He stayed in Johannesburg in South Africa for a week and he had mild symptoms of the variant.

Under new regulations, RT-PCR tests are mandatory for the passengers arriving from the countries which are at high risk and they are allowed to leave the airport only after the results come negative.

Also, two per cent of the passengers at airports from other countries are being tested randomly to reduce the risk.
