12 hours of Hartal in Kerala...

Many parts of Idukki participated in Hartal

On 30 March 2023, people came to the road to participate in 12 hours of hartal from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in ten panchayats in the Idukki district of Kerala to demand the capture of a wild tusker identified as Arikomban, who had destroyed many places in the district, and to argue against the Kerala High Court, which had constituted a five-member expert committee to advise the court with different options other than capturing the wild tusker.

As per the information, Arikomban has killed nearly 7 people and destroyed many of their settlement places while in search of rice.

The panchayats that observed hartal are Marayur, Munnar, Devikulam, Kanthalloor, Vattavada, Edamalakkudy, Bison Valley, Udumbanchola, Santhanpara, and ChinnaKkanal panchayat.

Following the incident, the court advised that the Forest Department of the area would attach a radio collar to observe the tusker's movement.

In response to the court's order, the people decided to have a 12-hour panchayat-level hartal in the district.

On Wednesday night also, people blocked the roads during the protest.
