13 Dead After Falling Into Well During A Wedding Ceremony In UP

A shocking incident took place in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district where 13 people are Dead after falling into a well during a wedding ceremony. The incident took place in the Nebua Naurangiya police circle.


According to the information, thirteen people, including seven women and six girls, died after accidentally falling into a well during wedding celebrations at a village in Kushinagar district in Uttar Pradesh's eastern part last night.

 

The information stated, the women were in the 20-35 years age group and there is also a one-year-old infant among the dead.


Around 15 women were rescued by villagers and the police, while 13 others could not be saved in time. "During a wedding programme, some people were sitting on a slab of a well and due to heavy load, the slab broke.

 

An ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh will be given to the kin of the deceased," said S Rajalingam, the District Magistrate of Kushinagar. Akhil Kumar, ADG, Gorakhpur Zone, also confirmed the same. Initially, reports said 11 women were dead, but the toll climbed to 13 later.


According to an official, the incident took place where women and children at the wedding were sitting on a slab that covered an old well.

 

The slab collapsed under the weight and those sitting on top of it fell into the well. They were rushed to the hospital, where 13 people were declared dead. Two people have suffered serious injuries in the incident.


Prime minister Narendra Modi extended his condolences during this mishap he described the incident as "heart-rending", expressed his condolences, and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured. 


Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Office tweeted that he has directed officials concerned to conduct rescue and relief operations immediately and provide proper treatment to the injured.
