2 Minors Raped On Pretext Of Being Given Roles In Movies

Accused allegedly repeatedly raped them for over an year


On Tuesday, 10 May 2022, Official said that the Police have registered a case against a man for allegedly raping two teenage girls in Maharashtra under the pretext of getting them roles in films.

Over the last one year, the accused allegedly took the girls, both aged 13, to a forest in Vasai area where he repeatedly raped them, the official from the Mira Bhayander-Vasai Virar police control room said.

The man also demanded Rs. 70,000 from the girls while threatening to post their objectionable pictures on social media.

The girls' parents lodged a complaint, following which the Nallasopara police on Monday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the man under Indian Penal Code Sections 376, (rape), 377 (unnatural sex), 384 (extortion) and 506 (criminal intimidation), and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the official said.

No arrest has been made so far, Police said.

At least five rape cases were registered every day in the national capital last year as cases of crimes against women saw an upward tick, according to the Delhi Police statistics.

The Delhi Police said there is an increase of 21.6 % in rape cases with 1,969 cases registered last year as compared to the 1,618 cases in 2020.

In cases of molestation, there’s a spike of 17.5% with 2,429 cases registered last year. A total of 421 cases of eve teasing were registered last year.

Delhi Police chief Rakesh Asthana said, “There’s a rise in cases because the police are actively registering cases and taking complaints. For us, the safety of women, children and vulnerable sections of society is of utmost priority. So, we have initiated a drive to introduce pink booths across the city.”
