India has recorded 14 fresh cases of new Covid mutant strain from the United Kingdom taking the total number of such cases to 20

India has recorded 14 fresh cases of new Covid  mutant strain from the United Kingdom taking the total number of such cases to 20. The Mutant infection which started from the United Kingdom (UK), had it first case in the month of September. The new infection believed to be  more transmissible and harmful has been spreading fast across the world. Travel restrictions were imposed after the UK said earlier this month that the virus was "out of control".

Of the 20 cases of fresh strain, eight have been registered by a Delhi lab and 7 in a Bangalore lab. The numbers are likely to surge. But doctors are not sure and stated that there is no reason till yet to believe that it is more lethal or will not be controlled by a vaccine.

The Indian government has become more alert after the new fast-spreading Covid strain was discovered in the UK. It also recently banned all flights to the UK till December 31 and decided to actively test all returnees who had arrived from the UK. 33,000 passengers, who arrived from the UK between November 25 and December 23, are being traced, the government has strictly said, stressing the serious situation is "under careful watch".

On the other hand, testing people who have particularly returned from the UK may not be enough as the new Covid strain has also spread in many other parts of the world like Denmark, the Netherlands, Australia, Italy, and Sweden.
