3 day rail roko strike by farmers in Punjab

What are their demands?

A three-day rail strike by numerous farmer organizations began on Thursday to demonstrate their position on a number of urgent requests, including a cash package for losses brought on by recent flooding, a legal guarantee for MSP, and the cancellation of debt.

This choice was made public by Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee general secretary Sarwan Singh Pandher after an important gathering of leaders from 19 different farmer organizations, according to news agency PTI.

The initiative has gained support from farmer organizations from Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, among others, despite the fact that the majority of the participating farmer organizations are from Punjab.

According to Pandher of PTI, the farmers wanted comprehensive debt forgiveness programs, a legally binding guarantee of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) across all crop types, and financial relief packages for flood-affected people in north India.

The 'rail roko' will occur in 12 locations across Punjab, including Moga, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Tarn Taran, Sangrur, Patiala, Ferozepur, Bathinda, and Amritsar.

About 100 farmers protested the railways' seizure of land earlier this month in Maharashtra's Sangli district by staging a "rail roko" demonstration. The Kolhapur-Gondia Maharashtra Express was stopped by demonstrations in the Bhilwadi-Nandre section of Palus tehsil for more than four hours. The district administration and a joint measurement for the additional land were in continuing discussions since the farmers in Maharashtra urged that the railroads buy their extra land.
