3 years, Still No Justice for a 35 year- old assault victim

The woman accused her former supervisor of assaulting her during un-scheduled hours of work.

Chennai: A thirty-four-year-old woman tech-pro working for  IT company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has been fighting a legal case for the last three years against her former supervisor for allegedly sexually assaulting her in the United Kingdom. According to reports of the officials, they haven't found any evidence against the accused.

The accused and company have been dragging the legal battle for three years for assessment, questioning and tactics.

Shweta (name changed) said she was sexually harassed in March 2018 in the UK just before her 9-month assignment ended as she prepared to return to India.

According to Ms Shweta's statement, "He threatened me to co-operate or he would jeopardise my career". She also added that "the company made no effort to even get the CCTV footage from the site."

The TCS Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) confirmed that the supervisor's act was "bordering on hostility" and that "this needs to be addressed," but it concluded it was "unable to prove sexual harassment allegations based on evidence submitted". They also added that "this act did not provide artefacts on sexual harassment". Also, the woman had taken a long period of 3 months to report the incident. However, Ms Shweta said she was shattered and was scared at the time of the incident that the stigma could break her marriage.

The woman claimed that the committee did not give her his deposition while her statements on his contradictions were not taken seriously and neither was she allowed support of a social worker to confront the accused.
