Earthquake In Sikkim


On Monday, an earthquake of magnitude 5.4 struck near Sikkim's capital Gangtok in the night. The epicentre of the earthquake was 25 km east-southeast (ESE) of Gangtok, Sikkim, the National Center for Seismology alleged. The earthquake struck at around 8:49 PM at a depth of 10 km from the surface, according to NCS.

According to reports, apart from Sikkim, tremors were felt in some other states such as Assam, north Bengal and also in Bihar. Tremors were also felt in some parts of Nepal as well as in Bhutan. In Sikkim, the earthquake triggered panic among the people, who tweeted on social media regarding the earthquake. No effect or damage to property have been reported so far.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked the Chief Ministers of the affected states to take stock of the damage, according to the sources.
