5 Killed, Over 66 Injured In Massive Fire At Durga Puja Pandal In UP

5 killed includes three Children!


A massive fire engulfed a Durga Puja Pandal in Uttar Pradesh Bhadohi where around 5 have been reported dead among them three were children. 


Around 66 have been reported injured during this mishap.  As per the information, the fire broke out at around 9 pm when Aarti was being performed at the puja Pandal to mark the 'Saptami' or the seventh day of Navratri festival.


According to the state given by the police, Around 150 people were inside the pandal at the time of the incident, adding that the injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment.


Overheating of a halogen light caused the fire, news agency PTI quoted District Magistrate Gaurang Rathi as saying.


"A halogen light at the pandal overheated, following which an electric wire caught fire at multiple points simultaneously. Soon the fire engulfed the wooden scaffolding and the tent," he said.


“Around 150 people were present during Durga Puja aarti when a fire broke out. 52 people were admitted to diff hospitals; a 10-12y/o child died. 30-40 per cent burns on people in trauma centers, every patient stable...Prime facie, it was a short-circuit; probe on,” Rathi said as quoted by news agency ANI.


Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has condoled the loss of lives in the incident. 


He has directed district administration officials to reach the hospital and ensure proper treatment of the injured, the Chief Minister's Officer said.
