5 Members arrested for extorting money from a businessman says: Delhi Police

A businessman got hostage by a gang was beaten up in a naked condition and demanded money


New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested five members, including three women, of a gang for allegedly extorting money from their targets after filming them in compromising positions, the official said.

According to the Delhi Police statement, the alleged arrested in the Dabri area in the southwest part of the city was based on a businessman's lodged an FIR on Saturday.

The businessman said that he had received a call from a woman to purchase a plyboard. A day after on Thursday, he received a WhatsApp call from the same lady, when he reached Mata Chanan Devi Hospital in Janakpuri. After then, she took an e-rikshaw and took him to her house. She gave him a glass of water and after drinking it, he became unconscious, senior police personnel said.

According to the victim (businessman), when he was back in his consciousness, he found himself in naked condition. About five to six women and three men, who were in the room, started beating him. They took his wallet having Rs.15,700, a wristwatch, a gold ring and demanded Rs. 7 lakh more and was frightened to kill him.

During the interrogation, police collected information about the possible location of the gang members and nabbed them, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Shankar Choudhary said.

After the questioning, one of the arrested used to search mobile numbers of targets on online dating applications. She used to give their cellphone numbers to another gang member, who would invite the target to the house of a woman, also an accused, the DCP added.

The members would pose as a judge or legal consultant, an NGO member and a neighbour and family members of the woman who would make sexual relations with the victim. They all extorted money from the victim on the pretext of getting him booked in a false rape case, the police said.
