6 Dead as the truck mowed down Kanwariyas in UP

6 kanwariyas from Madhya Pradesh died as a truck mows down kanwariyas in Hathras


At least six kanwariyas were dead and one sustained serious injuries as a speeding truck mowed down the group of devotee kanwariyas in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh district. The incident occurred on Saturday. Police informed that the incident took place at around 2:15 am near Badhar chowk on Hathras Agra road. The yatris were returning from Haridwar to their hometown Gwalior, in Madhya Pradesh when the incident happened.

 

Five of them died on the spot while the other one sustained serious injury and was taken to the Agra’s SN Medical College for treatment where he succumbed to death as well. One more person is still under observation as per the police reports. The five of these seven people were identified as, Jabar Singh (28), Ranveer Singh (30), Manoj Pal (30), Ramesh Pal (30) and Naresh Pal (45) and the sixth’s person identity is yet to be ascertained. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Rajeev Krishna ADG (Agra Zone) informed that a probe is underway into the accident. He said, “We have received the information about the driver and soon he will be nabbed, and a case has been registered against the accused driver”. 

 

Earlier this week seven kanwariyas were swept away by the current of the Ganga River while bathing in Haridwar. Naresh Chaudhary, the zonal magistrate informed that the swimmers’ team of the army arrived immediately and rescued 18 kanwariyas from drowning. He urged devotees at Ganga Ghat to stay away from the strong currents and stay cautious. He said, “Yesterday also a woman was washed away in a strong current who was rescued. She was admitted to the hospital and is completely safe”.
