7-Member Family went to Sleep in UP

Tragedy Strikes: 5 Found Dead Next Day

Five children in a family in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, died in their sleep due to suffocation. Two others are in critical condition and have been rushed to the hospital.

The police indicated that the tragic incident might be linked to the family burning a coal brazier (angithi) inside their house. The preliminary assessment suggests the cause of death could be a lack of oxygen resulting from using the coal brazier in their room.

Seven family members went to sleep on Monday night, and when they failed to open their door by Tuesday evening, neighbors grew suspicious. They took decisive action, breaking into the home to check on the family.

The house belonged to Raheezuddin, and tragically, three of his children and two of his relatives lost their lives in the accident. His wife and brother are reportedly in critical condition.

A significant police presence, led by Superintendent of Police Kunwar Anupam Singh and administrative officials, arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation into the matter.

Burning an Angithi or coal oven releases harmful gases such as carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide.

In a closed room, limited air circulation allows these gases to accumulate, decreasing oxygen levels and potentially leading to suffocation. Prolonged exposure can be fatal.
