7 Uzbek Women Forced Into Prostitution

Delhi Commission for Women issued a notice to Delhi Police

On Tuesday, The Delhi Commission for Women issued a notice to Delhi Police after it received a complaint about an international trafficking and prostitution racket.

Seven women from Uzbekistan filed a complaint to the commission saying that they were brought to India on the pretext of jobs but were forced into prostitution and sex slavery after they arrived here.

They said that some of them were brought to Delhi via Nepal and some directly to India on tourist visas and medical visas at different times.

The passports and other documents of those who were brought via Nepal were snatched away there only and then they were brought to Delhi.

Women were forced into prostitution and when they resisted, they were threatened and beaten, and were told that they would be caught and put behind the bars.

They further added that, they were sold to different owners during their stay in Delhi and were raped repeatedly. One woman also alleged that a person posing as a police official visited her owner’s place, carried a gun, and often threatened her.

A few days ago, they arrived at the Uzbekistan Embassy after managing to escape from there. Two of the accused also arrived there and allegedly kidnapped one of the women at gunpoint.

She was later released after the embassy contacted her by telephone.

The complainants again arrived at the Uzbekistan embassy where some police personnel recorded their statements. They said that they are presently receiving threatening calls from their traffickers continuously.
