"8 people died due to Tamil Nadu Rain," says: State Official

Tamil Nadu have received 56 to 67 per cent more than the average downpour this monsoon season


Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu has been shrouded with dense clouds of heavy continuous rain. Almost eight people have died in rain-related incidents in the state, of which three people lost their lives on Friday. Two teams of NDRF have been deployed in Chinglepet and one in Kanchipuram for rescue and relief operations, said the Tamil Nadu Disaster Management Minister KKSSR Ramachandran.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu on Saturday.

The Tamil Nadu Govt. has ordered to close the schools and colleges of almost 23 districts due to incessant downpour over the last 24 hours, which has led to severe waterlogging and flooding in several areas.

According to an official order, educational institutions in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Kallakurichi, Tuticorin, Nellai, Ramanathapuram, Pudukottai, Tanjore, Thiruvarur, Nagai, Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Trichy, Villupuram, Salem, Thiruvannamalai, Vellore, Ranipettai and Kanchipuram districts will remain closed on Saturday.

The weather forecasters have predicted thunderstorms with light to moderate rain over the next three hours has been forecast in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Villupuram etc.

Due to heavy rain, the districts have faced severe water-logging, crop damages, uprooting of trees, damage to cattle and an increase in water levels in the rivers and lakes following the heavy rainfall warning. The power supply was disrupted in parts of Chennai city due to waterlogging. Electricity has been temporarily snapped in Bazullah Road, part of Usman Road, Giriappa Road, parts of Perumbakkam, Aziz Nagar and KK Nagar.
