879 Kgs of illegal firecrackers seized by Delhi Police

Police officials disguised as vendors from Haryana to bust the sale and purchase of illegal firecrackers in Sadar Bazaar


On Tuesday, in a joint raid with the district administration 879 Kilograms of firecrackers was seized from a man in Delhi’s Sadar Bazaar area by the Delhi Police. The accused who has been identified as Mohammad Izaj, a resident of Bihar.

 

The district administration revealed that after receiving information about the sale and purchases of illegal firecrackers in Sadar Bazaar a team of officials were formed. Apparently, the team disguised themselves as vendors from Haryana who wanted to purchase firecrackers from Delhi and asked the street venders about some possible sellers. They were eventually introduced to Mohammad Izaj who enables the sales of the firecrackers on a commission basis.

 

When the officials reached the shop/godown of the accused they found two rooms full of firecrackers which was later estimated to weigh approximately 879 kilograms. The firecrackers were seized by the officials and the police was informed. The Delhi Police then registered a case against the accused under the relevant sections of law.

 

“As per the directions of Supreme Court and Chief Secretary of Delhi, we had formed 15 teams to stop the sale and purchase of firecrackers. Today, we got to know about the selling of firecrackers in Teliwara, Sardar Bazar. 879 kilograms of firecrackers were seized,” said the District Magistrate Akriti sagar to ANI. He further added “we told the police and one person has been detained. The firecrackers were brought from UP side, the rest will be known after the police investigation.” The investigation is still underway.
