9 children missing from shelter home in Kerala

A case has been filed…

On Monday morning, 14 November 2022, nine children who were staying in a shelter home run by an NGO in Kerala’s Kottayam went missing.

The nine missing children also include Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case victims.

The shelter home is run by Mahila Samakhya, a private NGO. It was functioning under the auspices of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

The children were found missing around 5.30 in the morning when a staff member at the shelter home went to wake them up. A missing case has also been filed at the Kottayam East police station.

They have started an investigation into this incident. All nine children who escaped were lodged in the shelter home in connection with several other cases.

According to K Karthick, Kottayam police chief, “We have started an investigation. A special team is inquiring as to where the children went and why they took this step. We will find the children soon. We will also inquire if there was any security issue in this.”

He added, “Our first priority is finding the children and discovering why they left the shelter home. Everything else will be checked as part of the probe.”

Further investigations are going on.
