India is a much diversified country. Every culture, caste and person has its festival to celebrate. One of them is devoted to all the Hindu husbands - "Karwa Chauth". It is one of the most prominent festivals celebrated among Hindu women, where married women fast for the longevity of their husband's life.

Women observe Vrat (fast) from sunrise till the sighting of the moon at night without food and water.

Karwa Chauth is also known as Karak Chaturthi. It is observed on 24th October 2021 this year.

According to the Hindu rituals, the festival takes place on the fourth day of Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Kartik. Goddess Parvati is considered to be the "Akhand Saubhagyavati" and is  worshipped on this day by the married Hindu women praying for their husbands' long lives. The women also worship Lord Ganesha and Lord Kartikeya on this prestigious occasion of Karwa Chauth.

Karwa means earthen pot which holds great significance in Puja. Ladies offer water known as Argha to the moon through this pot. Chauth means the fourth day. Preparation starts from advance. Every woman celebrates this occasion by applying henna on their hands, wearing new bridal clothes, bangles and jewellery as to look beautiful brides for their husbands.

The festival has tremendous fever in various states of North India of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, etc. Women wake up in the morning to have sargi prepared by their mother-in-law and later get dressed up in their traditional attires.

Certain preparation are  kept in mind while celebrating Karwa Chauth- sargi, shubh muhurat,  puja vidhi and moonrise timing.
