For the first time since the Taliban took over Afghanistan on August 15, the Afghan police have resumed work alongside the security of the Islamist group, officials said on Sunday. The Afghan police had abandoned their posts out of fear of the Taliban but reportedly, two officers said that they returned to work on Saturday after the Taliban commanders called them.

Border police members were seen deployed at several checkpoints at the airport on Sunday, reported AFP correspondent. A police official told the AFP that he had received a call from a senior Taliban commander who asked him to return to work.

The Taliban had earlier announced that they would grant a general amnesty to everyone who had worked for the former government. They had also said they wanted to integrate the security of Taliban and the resistance forces.

Meanwhile, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) became the first foreign commercial flight to land at Kabul airport on Monday. It indicates that soon flights from Islamabad to Kabul will resume in the coming days.
