Afghanistan crisis: Evacuation flights resume in Kabul after deadly bomb blasts

A day after suicide bomb blasts targeted several people trying to escape the Taliban takeover in the war-torn Afghanistan, evacuation flights resumed on Friday. The US said that more attacks are expected ahead of August 31, a deadline to withdraw troops from Afghanistan, due to which evacuation is being done with new urgency.

Residents of Kabul said that several flights took off on Friday which is being done in the wake to speed up the evacuation process. Meanwhile, local news channel Tolo News shared footage of desperate people in huge numbers outside the airport, which is the largest number ever.

85 people were killed in multiple bomb blasts outside Kabul airport on Thursday. At least 72 Afghans and 13 US service personnel were killed in the blast, which included women and children. 

US President Joe Biden condemned the attack and promised to hunt down the attackers and make them pay for it. He warned the perpetrators that they will neither forgive nor forget. However, he declined to extend the Tuesday deadline.
