Afghanistan: Kabul airspace shut down, Air India flight will not leave for Kabul amid crisis

As soon as the Taliban took over Kabul on Sunday, thousands of people ran to the airport to catch any available flight to flee the country.

Now no more flights will be able to operate from Kabul airport as the capital city's airspace has been shut down, the officials said. It means that no flight can take off or land in the capital anymore. An Air India flight that was supposed to fly to Afghanistan, a war-stricken country, to get people out of there, will not be able to complete its task. A notice to airmen (NOTAM) has been issued that says Kabul airspace has been sealed.

Other Air India flights between the US and India will also be rerouted to some Gulf country for refuelling and new routes will be decided soon for flight departure from India to the US. The Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority has informed all transit aircrafts to reroute as any transit through the capital would be uncontrolled, reported Reuters.

A flight tracking website FlightRadar24 tweeted that an Air India flight from Chicago to Delhi had changed course and soon after entering the airspace of Afghanistan the flight made an exit, while a Terra Avia flight from Baku to Delhi was also changing course, reported NDTV. The Kabul airport authority said that no commercial flights from Hamid Karzai Airport would take off in order to prevent looting and asked people not to rush to the airport.
