Afghanistan: Taliban resumes boys' schools, makes no mention of girls

Meanwhile, the Taliban have repeatedly said that they will not ban women education and will not replicate the fundamental policies of the previous Taliban government.

The Taliban-led Ministry of Education of Afghanistan directed all secondary schools to resume classes from Saturday. However, the order mentioned only male students without making reference to the return date for female students. The decision is in contrary to the claims earlier made by the Islamist group.

According to the directive, students and teachers of all private and government secondary, high schools and religious schools have been directed to return. Reportedly, at some schools that have managed to operate, girls up to the sixth grade have attended as well as women students have gone to university classes. However, high schools for girls are still closed.

Meanwhile, the Taliban have repeatedly said that they will not ban women education and will not replicate the fundamental policies of the previous Taliban government.
