After 12 yrs of rule, Benjamin Netanyahu ousted as PM of Israel by Naftali Bennett

The parliament voted in favour of Naftali Bennett's administration with a slight margin of 60-59 majority.

Benjamin Netanyahu's 12 year rule as the Prime Minister of Israel ended on Sunday after the parliament decided to oust him. The parliament voted in favour of Naftali Bennett's administration with a slight margin of 60-59 majority. The right-wing supporters of Netanyahu showed disagreement with the decision by shouting “shame” and “liar” at Bennett.

Bennett, 49, is a high-tech millionaire, whose alliance includes the coalition of left-wing, centrist, right-wing and Arab parties, which is a unique combination as it is for the first time in history that a party represents its 21% Arab minority. The common aim of all was to end the leadership of Netanyahu who has been the longest-serving leader of Israel. He completed his first term from 1996 to 1999 and again became the Prime Minister of Israel in 2009.

According to the coalition deal, Bennett will be replaced as the Prime Minister by centrist Yair Lapid in 2023. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Bennett on his win.
