After Ghazipur, Bhalswa Landfill Catches Up Fire

Massive Fire Breaks out in Bhalswa dump yard!

On Tuesday, a massive fire broke out at north Delhi's Bhalswa landfill site. Around 12 fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

According to officials efforts are on to douse the flames. News of the fire had also prompted a furious outcry from the Aam Aadmi Party. Environment Minister Gopal Rai has since asked the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to submit a report on the fire within 24 hours.

According to the statement given by CL Meena, "Initially, there was only smoke but later due to wind fire erupted. 12 fire tenders are present at the spot. Our aim is to ensure that fire does not spread to residential areas," said Delhi Fire Service Assistant divisional officer.

The National Green Tribunal had noted that the dumping sites in Delhi and other cities are like "time bombs" because they constantly generate explosive gases like methane which may escape through vertical and lateral ways posing a constant threat of explosion.

"Fire breaks out again at the Bhalswa landfill site. The fire is spreading in the nearby colonies, due to which the people there are finding it difficult to breathe," tweeted AAP leader Durgesh Pathak. Aiming the BJP over the fire, the politician also claimed that the saffron party's "arrogance and corruption" will "burn and finish" the party.

The national capital is witnessing fire and the situation repeatedly. The capital city issues are on the foremost list when it comes to anything related to public safety and health.
