Agriculture Minister signs MOU with Microsoft for a pilot project in 100 villages of six states to raise farmers' income

Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Wednesday signed MOU with Microsoft for a pilot project in 100 villages of six states to raise farmer's income. This project will carry out various charges for the improvement of farmers in the sort-out villages, which will increase their income. This will low down the input costs for farmers and make farming easy.

For states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, Microsoft will evolve a farmer network for smart scale and well-organized agriculture, including post-harvest management and divide.

In the statement, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi's idea of digital agriculture is now taking shape.”  Also, since taking over as the Prime Minister in 2014, Mr. Modi has laid great emphasis on the use of modern technologies in the farming sector to enhance farmer's income. Moreover, the agricultural economy is the backbone of the country and any loss to agriculture is a loss for the country. The agriculture sector has contributed positively to the country's economy even in difficult conditions like the Corona outbreak.

The aim of this program is to increase the income of farmers by removing the bottleneck of inconsistent information. Several new initiatives have been launched to achieve this goal. A major initiative, in this regard, is the creation of Agri-Funds based on the National Farmers Database.

The government is also preparing a farmer database by linking the land records of farmers across the country. The data relating to PM Kisan, Soil Health Card, and Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme, available with the government, have been integrated and the process of inclusion of other data is going on.
