AIADMK urges EC to disqualify MK Stalin and son from TN Assembly polls

The AIADMK has sought cancellation of elections in five constituencies where allegedly MK Stalin and his son Udhayanidhi Stalin have been bribing voters in order to secure votes.

The ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Monday urged the Chief Electoral Officer to disqualify DMK president M K Stalin and four others of his party for the April 6 Assembly polls, alleging 'distribution of cash' to voters. The AIADMK has sought cancellation of elections in five constituencies where allegedly MK Stalin and his son Udhayanidhi Stalin have been bribing voters in order to secure votes.

The complaint seeks disqualification of DMK leaders EV Velu, KN Nehru, and Durai Murugan, including MK Stalin and Udhayanidhi. The five constituencies where the AIADMK wants the elections to be stopped are Kolathur, Katpadi, Chepauk-Triplicane, Tiruchirapalli, and Tiruvannamalai.

MK Stalin is contesting elections from Kolathur, Udhayanidhi Stalin is contesting from Chepauk, DMK General Secretary Durai Murugan is fighting the polls from Katpadi, Mr Nehru from Tiruchirapalli, and Mr Velu from Tiruvannamalai. However, the DMK has denied the allegations.

The joint secretary of the advocate's wing of the AIADMK, R M Babu Murugavel alleged in a petition to the CEO, Tamil Nadu, Satyabrata Sahoo, that the associates of Mr Stalin have been 'distributing a sum of Rs 5,000 to the voters.' He also alleged that women self-help groups were 'paid' Rs 10,000 each to act, canvass and cast votes in his favour and voters were remitted Rs 5,000 through mobile payments app 'G-Pay,'

The state Elections CEO on Monday said that they have made Rs 428 crore worth poll-related seizures in Tamil Nadu so far where cash seizures alone account for Rs 225.5 crore.
