Amazon will Layoffs Over 18,000 Jobs

On 5 January 2023, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced that he will cut more than 18,000 jobs this year from his workforce because of economic uncertainty to his staff in early meeting. He further added that the number of layoffs is high and elimination to their roles are difficult for them and the team didn’t take the decision lightly.

His team is working to support the employees those will got affected by the decision and provide them a package that include a separation payment, transitional health insurance benefits, and external job placement support.

During the time of pandemic, the company supported many people with rapid hiring to the company and as seen a good growth in company but later the pandemic it got an uncertain economy which affect the company finances. However, the company took a step to cut down the jobs. “That the maximum number of role eliminations is from Amazon Stores and their PXT organizations," CEO Andy Jassy stated.

“In November, last year the company cut more than 10,000 and this time the announcement was made earlier as the information leaked from his teammates externally.” Jassy said in a statement to the company.

Europe will have more cut off jobs and the workers will be informed from 18 January.

Andy Jassy informed that “This year is quite difficult due to rapid hiring in past years and face uncertain economy.” He further mentioned that Amazon has experienced certain difficulties in the past and they will continue to do so.
