Amit Shah To Introduce Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill

The new Bill will repeal the existing ''The Identification of Prisoners Act, 1920


 On Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will introduce Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill 2022 in Parliament.

As per the information, The Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill, 2022 is aimed at authorizing the police for taking measurements of convicts and other persons for identification and investigation in criminal matters and to preserve records. Whereas the new Bill will repeal the existing ''The Identification of Prisoners Act, 1920.

 

As per the provisions of the Bill, any person convicted, arrested, or detained under any preventive detention law will be required to provide "measurements" to a police officer or a prison official.

 

As per the information, The Bill allows police to collect "finger-impressions, palm-print impressions, footprint impressions, photographs, iris, and retina scan, physical, biological samples and their analysis, behavioral attributes including signatures, handwriting or any other examination" referred to in section 53 or section 53A of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973. 

 

Union minister Arjun Munda is scheduled to introduce the Constitution (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Orders (Second Amendment) Bill in the Lower House. The bill seeks to amend the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (ST) list of Uttar Pradesh. It was scheduled to be tabled during the first half of the Budget Session but was postponed because of elections in the state.

 

Union minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to introduce the Finance Bill in Rajya Sabha for approval. The bill was approved in Lok Sabha after accepting 39 amendments Sitharaman moved and rejected those the Opposition proposed by voice vote.
