Ex-MD of Amrapali group arrested...

An eight-year-old murder case of Dr Sharad Chand, Ex-secretary of the Bihar-based educational institution Balika Vidyapeeth in Lakhisarai, Bihar got listed by the Patna High court last month that is handled by the central bureau of investigation (CBI) on Amrapali group.

On January 11, 2023 the CBI arrested the ex-chairman and the managing director of Amrapali group Anil Sharma along with Rajendra Prasad Singhania, Dr Praveen Kumar Sinha, Shyam Sunder Prasad, Shambhu Sharan Singh, Radhey Shyam Singh and the principal of  Balika Vidyapeeth Anita Singh.

Dr Sharad Chand was shot dead at his house while he was reading a newspaper on his balcony in August 2014. The motive of the incident was to get the assets and occupy land that belongs to the educational institute.

According to the CBI officials, Anil Sharma replaced Dr Sharad Chand with the help of  Rajendra Prasad Singhania, Dr Praveen Kumar Sinha, Shyam Sunder Prasad and Shambhu Sharan Singh. Since then, both the parties have had disputes. They further mentioned that the secretary was targeted and threatened earlier too and questioned about the way school was being run.

A single bench of Judge Rajeev Ranjan Prasad has ordered the CBI to investigate the case, following the petition from Sharad Chanda’s wife.
