Amravati to Visakhapatnam

Andhra Pradesh has a new capital now...

On 31 January 2023, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Jagan Mohan Reddy announced Vishakhapatnam also known as Vizag as the new capital of Andhra Pradesh during the international meet in the national capital of India. He further mentioned that they will organize the global submission in Visakhapatnam on the 3rd and 4th of March.

Visakhapatnam is the largest and most popular city in Andhra Pradesh and the second largest city on the east coast in India.

He will shift to the new capital in the upcoming months sticking to the 3-capital plan including the Kurnool and the existing capital Amravati despite of having the rejection by the High court that they can’t make such a law.

The case is pending in the Supreme Court on an appeal by the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) of Jagan Reddy.

In 2015 when Telangana separated from Andhra Pradesh. The Telugu Desam Party led by N Chandrababu Naidu announced Amravati as the new capital in the Vijayawada Guntur region on the bank of the river Krishna.

Later in 2019, the state government changed to the YSRCP of Mr. Reddy and in 2020 the party planned a three-capital state where Vishakhapatnam for the executive, Amravati for the legislative, and Kurnool for the judiciary.
