Anticipatory bail to former Punjab CM Prakash Singh Badal

The Faridkot Court grants bail in the Kotkapura firing case


On Thursday, the Faridkot district court granted anticipatory bail to former Punjab chief minister Prakash Singh Badal but dismissed the plea for the bail of his son, former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, and former SSP Sukhmandar Singh Maan in connection with the Kotkapura firing case of 14 October 2015.

 

 

The decision was taken by the additional district and session judge Rajeev Kalda after hearing a plea on March 14 and 15 by their counsel, Shiv Kartar Singh Sekhon, and ordered the former CM to surrender before the local magistrate within 15 days and asked him to comply with the condition envisaged under Sections 438(2) and 437(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

 

 

As per the information, the special investigation team of Punjab police led by ADGP LK Yadav probing the case and filed a chargesheet of 7,000 pages through which 1,400 pages are on culpability and other remaining 5,600 are on electronic evidence under various sections of Indian penal code 307, 120B, 153, 119, 109, 34, 201, 217, 218, 167, 193, 465, 466, 471, 427, 323, 324, and 504 and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act against former ministers Prakash Singh Badal and Sukhbir Singh Badal along with five other police officers former Faridkot SSP Sukhmander Singh Mann, former DIG Amar Singh Chahal, former IG Paramraj Umranangal, former Moga SSP Charanjeet Singh Sharma, and former SHO Kotkapura Gurdeep Singh Randhaw and DGP sumedh Saini.
