Apex Court puts stay on implementation of 3 farm laws

The Supreme Court has formed a committee in order to solve the issue.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday put the three agricultural laws on hold and formed a committee to resolve the issue. The bench headed by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde and comprising Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian formed a panel consisting of HS Mann, Pramod Kumar Joshi, Ashok Gulati and Anil Dhanwant to hold talks. On the basis of reports, that the farmers will not go to any committee for the resolution of the problem, the Apex Court urged the farmers' unions to cooperate with the court and go before the committee.

"We are looking to solve the problem. If you want to agitate indefinitely, you can do so," said the court. "This committee will be for us. All of you people who are expected to solve the issue will go before this committee. It will not pass an order or punish you. It will only submit a report to us.." said CJI. CJI S A Bobde asked Attorney General KK Venugopal about an application stating that a banned organisation has infiltrated the protest. CJI asked, " Can the attorney-general accept or deny it?" To this Venugopal replied, "We have said that Khalistanis have infiltrated into the protests." The CJI told the Attorney General that he has to confirm the allegations by filing an affidavit by tomorrow. "We will file an affidavit in this regard and place the Investigation Bureau records," Venugopal said.

On permission to hold protests at Ramlila Maidan, the court said that the farmers will have to abide by the rules of the Delhi Police and may seek permission from the Delhi Police commissioner for protests at any location. Regarding a plea by Delhi Police to stop the proposed tractor rally by the agitating farmers on Republic Day, the court issued a notice. The Attorney General said that if they allow farmers to enter the city, nobody knows where they would go. To this the CJI said that police will decide and check the entry of people. Farmers have been protesting against the three new farm laws and their demand is to repeal the laws
