The report by The Financial Times(FT) clearly states that Apple silently increased its efforts to develop its own search engine. The regulators investigated to find out  multi-billion dollar payments that google makes every year just to ensure that the google’s search engine appears or is installed as default search tool.   

Whenever users of iPhone with iOS 14, the latest iPhone software, type a query into the search window, Apple shows its own search inplace of Google search results. Not just that Apple phones are now showing aotu-complete style suggestions, highlighting how it is learning from users' most common search engines. These changes have already been noticed by some users. Google pays Apple to be iPhone’s default search engine and recently a case was registered by the US Department of Justice(DOJ) last week. The DOJ cites ‘public estimates’ by saying that Google pays Apple between $8Billion to $12Billion per annum to be a default search tool on Apple products.The DOJ case has enumerated resolution to Apple’s search efforts.

The FT reports states that marketing experts say that the company’s “Applebot”- a web crawler used to build a database for online substances has become more vigilant recently.

In recent years Apple has hired a number of search experts. Google’s head of search  John Giannandrea was hired for the Cupertino-Headquartered firm in April 2018. Apple has been frequently posting job advertisements for search engineers.

Apple denied all comments according to the Financial Times report.
