Youth hides IIT slection to join Army...


A Rajasthan farmer's son, Gaurav always dream of being soldier.

Gaurav Yadav, a son of a farmer from Jajor-Baas village in India, who hide the fact that he had cleared the entrance exam to one of the most prestigious institutes in India, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IT), to fulfil his dream of joining the armed forces.

Yadav not only made it to the National Defence Academy, he also emerged as the President's gold medal winner at the NDA's 143rd course on Wednesday.

The NDA examination is a gateway for youngsters looking to join the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. After clearing the test, there are interviews and medical examinations. Training at NDA lasts three years.

Yadav was a star at NDA's Passing Out Parade on Wednesday, he also commanded the parade, an honour he never thought he would get.

The youngster encountered many challenges while pursuing his dream. He cleared the NDA exam twice but didn't succeed in the interview rounds. When he finally made it to the academy, he struggled to handle the pressures of gruelling training.

Yadav, who attended the Kerala Public School in Rewari in Haryana, scored A+ in his 1Oth grade before topping with 96 per cent in 12th boards.

"I believed his version. Only after being selected to NDA did he tell us that he had cleared the IT entrance too" the gold medallist's brother Vineet, who is also in the Army, told Times of India in an exclusive interview. 

Of the 300 cadets from the outgoing batch, 207 wereArmy cadets, 54 Air Force and 39 Naval, The Indian Express reported.

 

Yadav and others cadets will now head for one more year of pre-commissioning training.

Those wanting to join the Army will train at the Indian Military Academy in Uttarakhand. For Naval and Air Forcetraining, the cadets will head to the Indian Naval Academy in Kerala and the Air Force Academy in Telangana.
