The statue of Arun Jailey was unveiled by Amit Shah today.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah today unveiled the statue of former Finance Minister and chief of the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) on the 68th birth anniversary at the Arun Jaitley Stadium formerly known as the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium and the chief of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Saurav Ganguly attended the ceremony at the stadium.
The current president of the DDCA Rohan Jaitley who is the son of Arun Jaitley was also present in the ceremony held today. A six foot tall statue of Jaitley was erected inside the stadium and the statues cost close to 15 lakh rupees and weighed around 800 kg. While unveiling the statue Shah said, “There are two kinds of people in cricket, one is people who play second is people who make an atmosphere for playing, their contribution is a lot and for that we are unveiling the statue.” The DDCA chief and former Union Minister died on August 24 last year due to multiple organ failure.
In a blistering letter written to the chief of the DDCA former cricket player of the Indian team Bhishan Singh Bedi asked his name to be removed from the spectators stand named after him in 2017 from the Kotla stadium and also gave up his membership in the state unit. In his letter he added “Sporting arenas need sporting role models. The place of the administrators is in the glass cabins.”
Over the last year two major events gave directions to the Indian Cricket firstly the match rights sell directions and secondly the introduction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) said Shah at the event
