Arvind Kejriwal inaugurates the city's first genome sequencing lab at LNJP Hospital,this has been set up as a preparation for third wave of Covid-19. This will help in identifying variants of Covid-19.


The fear of the third wave of Covid-19 is still in the minds of the people. Whereas the Government is preparing for it. On 7 July, Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated Delhi's first genome sequencing laboratory at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP)  Hospital. It also said that the lab will begin by sequencing 6-8 samples a week and this Genome laboratory can identify variants of Covid-19. 

In his address, Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal said that " I have been told that this is the third such facility in North India. The people of Delhi will benefit, from it. This genetic analysis will be helpful in the third wave." He also said that" We are dependent on the central Government's lab at NCDC till now and we had to sell our samples to that lab. Machines for Genome sequencing have been brought in LNJP. Through this machine, we can analyse the variants of coronavirus. If we get to know which variant it is, it will help in making action and framing strategies. " said the CM.

According to the statement given by, Dr Suresh Kumar, Medical Director at Lok Nayak Hospital, "currently, the researchers are working on standardised the data, after which the capacity will be increased to 40-50 samples a day."
