Assam Floods: Brahmaputra river flows above the danger mark, over 3.5 lakh people across 21 districts affected

CWC has warned that the water level in the Brahmaputra river is expected to rise by 20 to 35 centimeters.


The country is witnessing heavy rainfall in several states. Meanwhile, Assam has been hit by the flood as the Brahmaputra river flowed above the danger mark which affected around 3.5 lakh people across 21 districts of the state.

According to the Flood Reporting and Information Management System (FRIMS), as many as 950 villages in 21 districts of the state have been affected due to flood following heavy rainfall in the state. Whereas, the Central Water Commission (CWC) has warned that the water level in the Brahmaputra river is expected to rise by 20 to 35 centimeters. 

The state has been witnessing a flood-like situation for the past several weeks. Severe flood forced people in Panikhaiti village of Kamrup district to live amid dreadful situations while the houses have submerged. According to the report, the government has set up 44 relief centres which includes 16 relief camps and 28 relief distribution centres to help the flood victims. Meanwhile, over 1,600 people have taken shelter in these relief camps.
