Assam: IAF rescues 119 train passengers stranded in flood

Passengers were rescued on Sunday!


On Sunday, around 119 passengers were rescued by the team of The Indian Air Force (IAF). 

 

As per the information, The IAF rescued around 119 passengers of the Silchar-Guwahati Express after the train was left stranded due to heavy rain. 

 

Further, the information stated that The Silchar-Guwahati train was stranded in the Cachar area. Due to flood water, the train was unable to move either forward or backward.

 

After the train was stranded for several hours, the district administration, with the help of the Indian Air Force, rescued 119 people

 

According to the statement given by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said that landslides have been reported from New Kunjung, Fiangpui, Moulhoi, Namzeurang, South Bagetar, Mahadev Tilla, Kalibari, North Bagetar, Zion and Lodi Pangmoul villages, where around 80 houses were severely affected.

 

Adding more it said, "Railway line at Jatinga-Harangajao and Mahur-Phaiding was blocked due to landslides. Before reaching Maibang tunnel at Geremlambra village, the road is likely to be blocked due to landslides," said the ASDMA.

 

Assam has been ravaged by flash floods and massive landslides at several places, snapping rail and road links from other parts of the state. Meanwhile, the flood situation in the state has deteriorated as the affected population has gone up from Saturday’s 24,000 to 56,000 on Sunday. According to ASDMA, 56,669 people were affected by floods in six districts — Cachar, Dhemaji, Hojai, Karbi Anglong West, Nagaon, and Nalbari.
