The prime accused was arrested in Orissa
The police department have arrested the main accused in the Balsore acid attack case on 10 March 2023. The man was alleged for throwing acid on his second wife, who suffered to the injuries in hospital for six days after the incident at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
As per the statement shared by SP Sagarika Nath of Balasore, The main accused is identified as Chandan Rana, and they also arrested the person who sold the acid and his first wife. She further added that it was a pre-planned murder.
According to the information, the accused decided with his first wife to kill his second wife, identified as Banita Singh, and threw acid on her because she got to know about his first wife.
Following the incident, the police have registered the case under sections 452, 326(A), and 307 of the Indian Penal Code on 20 February at Sahadevkunta, which comes under the police jurisdiction of Balasore.
The police have arrested seven people in this case so far after a search in Balasore, West Bengal, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu by the special team.
Further investigations are underway.
